A striking original modernist painting by the renowned Latin American contemporary artist Gilberto Almeida Egas (Ecuadorian, 1928–2015). This large-scale, highly textured architectural scene features a colonial courtyard and heavy wooden gateway, framing two stylized figures—including a woman cloaked in vibrant red.
Almeida was a key figure in the development of 20th-century modern art in Ecuador, and his works are held in major museum collections internationally. This piece perfectly showcases his signature mid-century aesthetic: flattened, geometric planes, rich impasto texturing, and a subdued architectural color palette punctuated by bold, deliberate focal points.
The artwork is presented in a substantial, rustic faux-bois carved wooden frame with mottled metallic undertones and a complementary fabric mat liner.

The original painting itself is excellently preserved with vibrant colors and intact impasto surface texturing. The vintage faux-bois frame exhibits noticeable cosmetic wear, including chipping, flaking, and finish loss along the outer edges, raised inner ridges, and corners, which exposes the lighter raw wood beneath the finish. Additionally, there is a distinct dark spot/stain present on the left side of the inner fabric mat liner. Please review all detailed photos closely to assess the vintage character and wear of the frame. less
