A striking vintage British pub mirror dating to approximately the 1970s–1980s, featuring nostalgic East India Company maritime imagery in a generously scaled horizontal format.
The composition centers on a beautifully detailed, full-rigged sailing ship surrounded by a gilt-toned sunburst border. Arched “East India Company” lettering appears above in lavender, black, and gold, while a cobalt-blue banner references the company’s royal charter granted by Queen Elizabeth I on December 31, 1600. Additional period advertising-style text reads, “Fast Passages to India and China” and “Importers of Oriental Spices, Silks, Calicoes, Sugar and Ivory.”
The multicolored decoration was applied to the reverse of the mirrored glass, consistent with traditional late-20th-century British advertising and pub-mirror production. Gilt-toned scrollwork and corner ornaments complete the design. The mirror is housed in its warm honey-colored molded wood frame and retains its period backing and hanging wire.
A handsome statement piece for an English traditional interior, library, study, home bar, game room, restaurant, or maritime-inspired collection. The mirror commemorates the historic East India Company but was produced centuries later as decorative advertising-style wall art. Maker unknown.

The mirror remains bright and reflective, with strong, crisp colors and well-preserved imagery. Minor age-related foxing, speckling, and light haze are present on the mirror plate, together with localized mottling, thinning, and small areas of wear to the gilt-toned decoration and border. There are faint surface scratches and marks, as well as minor wear to the wood frame. No cracks or major losses observed. The period backing and hanging wire remain in place. Please review all photographs, which form part of the condition description. less
