This investment-grade piece is distinguished by its highly intricate, beautifully matched oyster-veneered drawer fronts and facade, meticulously framed by herringbone (feather-banded) stringing inlay borders. Unlike the vast majority of tallboys from this era, which have suffered from severe alterations over the centuries, this specimen retains remarkable historical integrity. Key Features & Authenticity Markers:Premium Facade: Breathtaking concentric circular oyster-cut walnut veneers accented with cross-grain waist moldings and elegant crown molding. Authentic 18th-Century Joinery: Drawers are constructed using heavy, solid oak secondary linings joined by classic, early 18th-century oversized hand-cut double dovetails. The wood surfaces retain original hand-planed tool marks. Original Backboards: Features vertically oriented, pit-sawn backboards covered in a historic protective dark wash, showing honest centuries-old atmospheric shrinkage gaps. Original Base & Feet: Supported underneath by its original multi-block bracing system, featuring uncompromised hand-chopped vertical corner blocks and horizontal glue blocks anchoring the traditional ogee bracket feet. Proportions: A classic two-part stacking configuration featuring three small drawers over three graduated long drawers in the upper section, sitting upon a three-drawer lower base. An absolute masterpiece of early Georgian cabinetmaking, perfect for a discerning collector or a high-end, curated interior design project. Excellent antique condition with wear appropriate for a 300-year-old piece. Structure is rock-solid and completely stable. The backboards show natural horizontal shrinkage splits, and the waist molding shows fine hairline cross-grain splits—both expected, beautiful hallmarks of authentic 18th-century wood movement. The brass swan-neck handles are 20th-century replacements secured with modern machine fasteners from the interior, a very common historical update that does not compromise the exceptional structural integrity of the piece. It measures 73 1/2” tall x 45 1/2” wide x 22” deep. See less
