A large-scale vintage commercial sign panel displaying the words “DAWSON FUNERAL HOME” in bold, raised black lettering. Designed for clear visibility from a distance, the sign combines straightforward typography with a deeply molded architectural surface.
The heavy lucite panel is formed from a single sheet with a recessed central field, substantial outer border, and closely spaced vertical fluting. This ribbed background introduces texture and creates pronounced shadows around the raised lettering, increasing the sign’s depth and legibility.
The reverse reveals the recessed forms of the letters in mirror image, demonstrating the molded construction of the panel. Its substantial size and strong black-and-white presentation give the sign an imposing graphic quality associated with vintage roadside and institutional signage.
Originally installed as an exterior commercial sign face, the panel now offers an unusual piece of funerary, architectural, and American business ephemera. It would make a dramatic wall display in an industrial interior, commercial collection, or space devoted to vintage signage.
