A monumental illuminated Greyhound Bus Lines advertising sign dating to approximately the 1950s or 1960s. Measuring eight feet across, the sign features a molded plastic face secured to a painted aluminum cabinet originally designed to contain an internal lighting system.
The composition depicts the less commonly encountered “prancing” Greyhound emblem, with the streamlined dog shown in profile above three elongated racing stripes. Blue and white coloring reinforces the company’s recognizable mid-century visual identity, while the exceptionally long horizontal format emphasizes speed, movement, and modern transportation.
The molded face gives the dog and trailing stripes a dimensional presence when viewed from the side. Although the internal lighting is currently nonfunctional, the original illuminated construction remains evident. Its large scale and instantly recognizable imagery make the sign a compelling example of American transportation advertising and commercial graphic design.
Well suited for display in a commercial interior, transportation collection, automotive-themed space, or expansive industrial setting.
