An exceptional circa 1920–1940 Chinoiserie mirror, entirely hand-carved in wood, featuring an elaborate and deeply sculpted composition with an architectural pagoda-style crest, decorative figures, scrolling foliage, and intricate ornamental details. The ornamentation is carved in wood rather than molded composition, giving the mirror remarkable depth, dimension, and sculptural character.
The mirror underwent a comprehensive professional restoration by Julio Jiménez, owner of Picasso Antiques Restoration. Any carved elements requiring replacement were individually recreated in wood, carefully following the construction, proportions, and character of the original piece. No resin, plaster, or synthetic molding materials were used in the reproduction of the carved ornamentation.
Following the structural and carving restoration, the mirror was completely refinished in hand-applied gold leaf. An aged patina and carefully controlled distressing were subsequently applied to soften the brilliance of the gilding, accentuate the depth of the carving, and preserve the historical character of the piece.
The result is a striking decorative mirror that retains the character and craftsmanship of its original carved-wood construction while benefiting from a meticulous professional restoration. Its elaborate Chinoiserie ornament and architectural silhouette make it an exceptional statement piece for an entry hall, living room, dining room, bedroom, or sophisticated collected interior.
