Textiles of this type were originally conceived as substantial decorative furnishings rather than as pillow fabrics. Woven textiles were used within important interiors for wall hangings, upholstery, bed furnishings, and other architectural decoration, where their color, pattern, and costly materials contributed warmth and visual richness to a room. Here, a surviving section of such an early textile has been preserved and adapted into a decorative pillow, allowing the historic weaving to continue to be appreciated in a functional form.

The textile is woven in wool and silk, materials traditionally valued for the different qualities they contribute to tapestry work. Wool provides structure, body, and strong areas of color, while silk can introduce finer detail and subtle differences in surface and texture. The front has been fashioned into an elongated rectangular pillow and is filled with feather, giving it a substantial but comfortable form while keeping the antique textile as the principal visual element.

The design is especially distinctive for its large-scale botanical composition. Stylized blossoms, curling leaves, and scrolling vegetal forms are arranged across broad irregular fields rather than within a small repetitive pattern. Teal outlines help define the sweeping contours, while areas of raspberry and cream create finely patterned passages among the larger floral elements. Mustard and antique-gold blossoms emerge against a predominantly warm neutral ground, accompanied by pale sage, dusty pink, burgundy, brown, camel, and cream. The scale of the surviving motifs makes the fragment particularly effective as a pillow because enough of the original composition remains to understand the rhythm of the larger textile.
