This exceptional 1990 original architectural landscape painting, rendered in a highly realistic style, depicts the Cappella Dal Pozzo dome in Pisa, Italy, and was created as a private gift by Eleanor Hannah-Harris (1922–2022)—a heroic WWII U.S. Army Nurse Corps First Lieutenant and lifelong Shrewsbury, Massachusetts, resident who lived to the remarkable age of 100.
The artwork features pristine physical documentation on both sides, bearing a stylized "E. Hannah" artist signature on the lower right front and a handwritten reverse inscription on the wooden stretcher bar reading "To Lucy 1990—Eleanor Hannah Harris" that definitively dates the piece. Presenting excellent vintage condition with stable canvas tension and vivid color preservation, this narrative-rich painting offers an evocative acquisition for collectors of European architecture, local Massachusetts history, and American military heritage.
THE PROVENANCE:
This artwork carries an incredible history. It was painted by Eleanor Marie (McMahon) Hannah-Harris (1922–2022), a lifelong nurse and proud resident of Shrewsbury, Massachusetts, who lived to be a centenarian. A graduate of Worcester Memorial Hospital, Eleanor enlisted in the U.S. Army Nurse Corps in 1944, serving heroically overseas in the European Theater during World War II as a first lieutenant. This piece reflects a deeply personal look back at her history, capturing the scenic grandeur of Italy.

Canvas and Support: The canvas retains excellent, taut tension on its original wooden stretcher bars and has no sagging or indentations. The raw canvas edges wrapped around the wood show normal, minor age-toning but no fraying or dry rot. Reverse Side: The wood of the stretcher bar is structurally sound with no cracking or insect damage. The artist's handwritten pencil inscription is crisp, completely legible, and has not smudged or faded. Odors or Stains: The piece is free from water damage, mold, mildew, or smoke yellowing. less
