An exceptional, investment-grade mid-century original oil painting on canvas by globally renowned Haitian master Wilson Bigaud (1931–2010). This striking, hypnotic portrait captures a stylized Haitian woman adorned with golden hoop earrings, set against a softly glowing atmospheric blue and green backdrop. The piece beautifully reflects Bigaud's historic mastery of modeled physical volume, deep contouring, and enigmatic expression.
Bigaud is an institutional figure in Caribbean art history. A member of the iconic Centre d'Art group in Port-au-Prince, his work was famously exhibited at the 1950 International Exhibit in Washington, D.C., and can be found in the permanent collection of the Museum of Modern Art (MoMA) in New York.
The painting features the artist's definitive signature box in the lower-right quadrant. It is housed in its original, heavy mid-century hand-carved stepped wooden frame, which adds incredible texture, warmth, and historic soul to the piece. A monumental find for serious collectors of Latin American, Caribbean, and international Naïve folk art.
