c. 1930s-1940s; Bailey's Funeral Home and Undertaking - Mendota, IL
Lot of two funeral home advertising items, including a large promotional thermometer and a sponsored 1947 phonebook. The thermometer features painted lettering on a tall vertical tin backplate, reading "Bailey's Funeral Home - Ambulance Service Anytime," with the original mercury glass tube intact. The accompanying green-covered phonebook prominently displays the Bailey's Funeral Home advertisement alongside a printed illustration of the funeral home building and the slogan: "We are as near as your telephone."
Bailey's Funeral Home of Mendota, Illinois, provided undertaking and ambulance services to the local community during the mid-20th century. Like many small-town businesses of the era, they promoted their services through practical advertising goods-items meant to remain visible and useful in homes and businesses alike.
