The original illustration appears in Volume V, Plate 53, published in Amsterdam in 1685.

The subject is historically associated with Cinnamomum malabatrum, a South Indian wild-cinnamon species. The composition is especially striking, with dramatically oversized veined leaves, delicate flowering stems, and the original multilingual plant nomenclature reproduced at upper right.

Executed in a restrained sepia and ivory palette on textured, deckle-edged paper. The sheet bears the embossed Natural Curiosities seal at the lower right. Float-mounted over an ivory textile ground and presented under glass in a handsome dark striped wood frame.

The oversized scale and graphic leaf structure give this piece considerably more visual presence than a conventional botanical print, making it particularly effective in traditional, contemporary, organic-modern, or collected interiors. See less
