Large-scale framed Natural Curiosities natural-history artwork titled “Tubularia Ramea.”
The dramatic composition depicts a branching, tree-like marine specimen rendered in layered brown, sepia and charcoal tones, punctuated by vivid coral-red details. The intricate branching structure gives the image an almost sculptural quality, while the intentionally antiqued paper surface creates the appearance of a centuries-old natural-history plate.
Historically, Tubularia ramea was the name given to a highly branched marine hydroid whose unusual form was frequently compared to a miniature tree. The species is now classified as Eudendrium rameum.
Produced by Natural Curiosities of Los Angeles, the artwork is presented on substantial deckle-edged paper and bears the firm's embossed Natural Curiosities seal at the lower right. Float mounted against a neutral textile ground and professionally presented under glazing in a substantial dark brown wood-grain frame.
The nearly four-foot-square format gives this piece considerable architectural presence and makes it particularly effective over a console, fireplace, large chest, or as a focal point in a library, study, dining room, or collected interior.
