Oversized framed horticultural study by Natural Curiosities, based on an early-19th-century illustration from British horticulturist William Forsyth’s influential 1802 work on the cultivation, pruning and restoration of fruit trees.
Titled “White Beurré Pear-Tree,” the image presents an architectural espalier-style pear tree with long horizontal branches carefully trained from a central trunk. A secondary illustration at lower right depicts an older branch and pruning detail. The original source plate was published in 1802 in connection with Forsyth’s pioneering methods for restoring old and damaged fruit trees.
Natural Curiosities recreated the historical image on handmade-style paper with naturally irregular deckled edges and subtle tonal variation. The embossed Natural Curiosities seal is visible at the lower right. Float-mounted over an ivory textile backing and presented beneath glass in a substantial dark wood frame.
The extreme horizontal scale and restrained monochromatic palette make this especially effective above a long console, credenza, sofa or dining-room sideboard.
