Elegant mahogany and marquetry demilune games table, dating to the 19th Century circa 1870 The table has a beautifully figured … Read more Elegant mahogany and marquetry demilune games table, dating to the 19th Century circa 1870 The table has a beautifully figured mahogany top and frieze, extensively decorated with fine floral and foliate marquetry, the decoration continuing down the central leg. The restrained tapered legs and rich colour give the piece a particularly refined appearance. The hinged demilune top opens to form a circular games table, revealing a wonderfully decorative inlaid chess and draughts board, framed within finely strung figured mahogany. A small concealed central compartment/drawer provides useful storage for gaming pieces. An attractive combination of decorative craftsmanship and practical design: when closed it presents as an elegant console or side table, while opening to create a handsome games table. Condition wise we have deep cleaned, the piece has been fully restored by my French polisher, its been lightly washed back and traditional polished from the ground it, the idea being to retain the period patina but make it clean and sharp ready for the new owners Dimensions Height: 78cm Width: 79cm Depth: 40.5cm extending to 78.5cm See less
