A standing ashtray in brass and copper attributed to the workshop of Carl Auböck (Vienna), retailed by Illums Bolighus, Copenhagen's premier design emporium, circa 1950s.
The Auböck workshop became celebrated for merging Modernist formal discipline with a sculptural wit, and by the 1950s its objects were distributed through leading Scandinavian retailers including Illums Bolighus. The warm brass and copper, with the patina and minor oxidation of authentic age, is quintessential workshop production of the period.
