a monumental french art deco ceramic sculpture by odyv, circa 1930, depicting a dynamic group of three stylized lionesses advancing in unison. The composition is defined by its elongated horizontal format, rhythmic movement and powerful, simplified anatomy.

the three animals are modelled as a continuous sculptural group, their bodies overlapping as they advance in a compact sequence. Anatomical detail is deliberately simplified in favour of volume, movement and silhouette, giving the sculpture a strong presence from multiple viewpoints.

the group is covered in a thick ivory-white glaze characterized by a finely textured, subtly orange-peel surface, particularly visible under raking or changing light. Rather than appearing perfectly uniform, the glaze retains the subtle variations associated with its handmade application and firing, contributing significantly to the tactile and sculptural character of the piece.

the sculpture is fully glazed across its visible surfaces. Only beneath the muzzle is a small area where the glaze coverage is slightly incomplete. Its position and appearance are consistent with the original glazing process rather than later wear or abrasion, providing a subtle indication of the handmade production of the piece.

an especially unusual feature is the presence of a small natural shell incorporated into the surface of the sculpture. The shell was already present when the piece was acquired. During examination, it was temporarily removed, revealing the unglazed red earthenware body directly beneath it, in contrast with the surrounding ivory-white glazed surface. This observation indicates that the shell was already in position before the white glaze was applied, connecting its presence with the original manufacturing process rather than suggesting a later decorative addition. After this detail had been examined and documented, the shell was returned to the position in which it was originally found.

measuring 51 cm in length and weighing approximately 3.95 kg, the sculpture has a substantial physical presence. Its elongated proportions, monochromatic textured glaze and strongly modelled silhouette make it a distinctive example of french art deco decorative sculpture of the period.
