son of the lithographer ferdinand friedrich burger. His brother fritz burger-mühlfeld (1882-1969) was also an artist.
from 1882, the family lived in poverty in augsburg, where the father later opened a label and poster factory (lithographic art institute) (unterer graben 225).
f. A. Burger became deaf in 1883 as a result of contracting scarlet fever.
he attended the district school for deaf and mute boys in augsburg and subsequently began an apprenticeship at his father's lithography workshop.
from 1898 to 1900, he attended the augsburg school of applied arts with the goal of becoming a lithographer.
from 1900 to 1902, he studied at the academy of fine arts in munich (under ludwig von herterich).
f. A. Burger was living in berlin (lichtenfelder chaussee 8, steglitz) by 1914 at the latest. There, he also opened a studio for deaf and mute "young ladies and gentlemen" to prepare them for admission to the school of applied arts or the academy (holsteinsche straße 63).
on may 22, 1915, he married the seamstress friederike maria liebe (born october 28, 1891, in berlin - date unknown) in berlin. His wife, like him, was deaf and mute. The couple had a daughter, mathilde.
the couple undertook numerous trips, including\. To the black forest, the allgäu region, and the donau-ries area (nördlingen).
in berlin, he worked as an illustrator, including for the weekly magazine of the deaf-mute party association, "jugend" (youth).
from 1939, the family lived in ederheim (house number 62a).
after the war, he returned to berlin and continued his artistic work there.
