Both of these textiles, always of high quality, were destined to complete the sumptuous furnishings of villas and palaces of the Parisian aristocracy. As with tapestries, rug cartoons were also designed by the best artists of the time, according to the dictates of the most fashionable style of the moment. The specimen we propose is from the beginning of the twentieth century and is characterized above all by the particularly soft colors. The design proposes the style imposed with Napoleon III, but the pastel shades certainly fit better in the middle-class houses of good French society. See less
