Atmospheric Japanese low tansu or chest of drawers cabinet from the Shōwa period, dating from around 1940–1950.
Dimensions: height 51.5 cm, width 96 cm, depth 42 cm.
Weight: approx. 17 kg.
The cabinet is made from warm wood with a beautiful dark patina and black metal fittings. Its simple rectangular form, two wide drawers, round iron handles, decorative lock plates and corner mounts give the piece a quiet yet strong Japanese presence.
Thanks to its low format, this tansu is highly versatile. Beautiful as a low sideboard, storage cabinet, TV unit, display piece or as a base for plants, ceramics, books and Japanese objects. The wide drawers offer practical storage, while the top surface works perfectly as a decorative display area.
The cabinet has a timeworn character, with normal signs of use and age, small scratches, colour variations and patina to both the wood and metal. These traces give the piece warmth, authenticity and character.
