The Buddha is portrayed with downcast almond-shaped eyes, an elongated nose, gently defined lips, and extended earlobes. In contrast to the restrained modeling of the face, the headdress is richly worked with successive bands of geometric and ornamental decoration, rising to a rounded, vertically ribbed upper section with a small floral or jewel-like motif at the front. The sculpture relates to the Southeast Asian tradition of the crowned Buddha, in which the Buddha is represented wearing royal or ceremonial ornament. This iconographic form appears across the Buddhist artistic traditions of the region, particularly in Thailand and neighboring Burma, now Myanmar. While its precise place of manufacture is undocumented, the character of the casting and its iconography suggest a probable Thai origin. The bronze has developed a deep brown-black patina with flashes of green verdigris, particularly within recessed areas and around the lower edges. Gentle surface wear reveals warmer bronze tones across some of the raised details, lending definition to the elaborate headdress and softer modeling of the face. The head is presented on a slender dark support above a square black lacquered wood base. The mount is later and provides a simple, understated presentation that allows the bronze to be viewed in the round. Good condition with patination and surface wear to the bronze, together with a few small scratches. Very presentable condition overall.
