Beautiful set of six vintage Swiss porcelain cups and saucers, dating to the 1970s and reflecting the elegant yet warm aesthetic of Scandinavian-inspired design that influenced European tableware during the mid-20th century. The set consists of six generously sized cups with their matching saucers, ideal for serving tea, cappuccino, coffee, or other hot beverages. Made in Switzerland during the 1970s by the renowned porcelain manufacturer Suisse Langenthal, the cups are crafted from porcelain, although their rich, tactile surface strongly recalls the appearance of Scandinavian stoneware and the organic character of Lava-style ceramics. The exceptional olive green glaze is the defining feature of this set. It is a glossy, opaque green glaze that breaks beautifully over the textured surface and develops an iridescent sheen, creating remarkable depth and variation across each piece. Its coloration ranges from soft, pale green tones to deep, darker shades, creating a beautifully organic and naturally varied appearance. The glaze is not uniform in either color or luminosity: some areas are highly glossy and reflective, while others appear more subdued and matte, emphasizing the tactile quality of the textured porcelain. This sophisticated interplay of texture, gloss, opacity, and iridescence recalls the atmospheric effects often associated with traditional Raku ceramics. The combination of the tactile porcelain surface and nuanced green glaze evokes the colors and textures of nature, recalling moss-covered woodland, dense vegetation, or the changing shades of green found along a forest stream. with its sophisticated Scandinavian-inspired aesthetic, organic coloration, and exceptional vintage condition, this Suisse Langenthal tea set is a striking example of 1970s European tableware design and would make a beautiful addition to a collection of Mid-Century Modern tableware. The cups and saucers appear to have never been used and remain in excellent original condition, with no visible chips, scratches, cracks, or crazing.
