The broad semicircular top displays particularly attractive book-matched figuring and is finished with a boldly carved gadrooned edge. Below, the frieze is richly carved with scrolling acanthus, flower-heads and a central classical urn, continuing around the curved sides to give the cabinet an unusually accomplished architectural appearance The central cupboard door is exceptionally decorative, veneered with beautifully figured mahogany arranged around an oval reserve and framed with delicate carved foliate scrollwork, a motif repeated to the curved side panels. Opening to reveal a useful shelved interior, the cabinet is raised upon elegant square tapering legs with shaped feet. The quality of the cabinetmaking is particularly evident in the hand-cut dovetailed drawer construction, substantial panelled back and carefully selected veneers. A wonderfully decorative piece of late Victorian English cabinet furniture, combining restrained classical proportions with exceptionally rich timber, carving and a warm, well-developed patina. Condition wise we have deep cleaned, hand condition waxed and hand polished it from top to bottom, there may be some age and use related patina marks based on normal use and transport Dimensions Height: 100cm Width: 123cm Depth: 52.5cm See less
