The shades are suspended individually from a long wooden crossbar, supported by slender angled metal rods and a rectangular veneered wooden ceiling canopy. The restrained geometry of the suspension creates an interesting contrast with the organic form and playful decoration of the glass.

The design reflects the experimental character of Czechoslovak lighting during the 1960s, when traditional glassmaking was increasingly combined with modern forms, graphic decoration and unconventional combinations of materials.

Particularly striking are the shades themselves. Each narrows gently around its centre before expanding towards the base, while black spots of different sizes create a graphic pattern across the white opaline surface.

The designer and manufacturer are unknown.

The light has been carefully checked, cleaned and prepared for use in our Brno workshop. The glass shades are in very good vintage condition, while the wooden and metal elements retain light traces of age and previous use consistent with the period.
