Limited-edition solid bronze sculpture titled “Wanted,” created in 1970 by American Western artist John Polland (1932–2003). The artist’s signature and edition number are located on the reverse side of the base.
The detailed composition depicts an armed cowboy seated on horseback as he pauses to examine a rough-hewn notice posted outside a frontier town. Dressed in a wide-brimmed hat and neckerchief, the rider holds a rifle across his lap while looking toward the posted sign. A second long gun rests against the rustic post and split-rail fence below, adding depth and narrative tension to the compact scene.
Polland’s “Wanted” portrays a lawbreaker cautiously checking the notice before entering town. If the posted image proves to be his own, he will continue riding rather than risk recognition and apprehension. The sculpture captures this moment of hesitation through the rider’s guarded posture and the horse’s quiet stance.
Naturalistic modeling defines the horse, rider, firearms, weathered fence, and rocky ground. The warm bronze patina settles into the recessed details while raised surfaces display lighter highlights, emphasizing the sculpture’s textures and three-dimensional character.
