Large-scale framed natural-history artwork by Natural Curiosities, based on an 18th-century French study of a sea turtle.
The composition depicts the turtle from multiple scientific viewpoints, including dorsal, ventral and profile studies, accompanied by period French inscriptions, scale markings and the heading “Plan, Profil et Coupe – Tortue franche à la carapace.” The original source imagery records a specimen caught off the coast of Brittany near Pornic in July 1765.
Rendered in muted charcoal, black and warm parchment tones, the work has the appearance of an antique zoological plate while retaining the substantial scale and polished presentation associated with Natural Curiosities.
The artwork is printed on deckle-edged paper and bears the embossed Natural Curiosities seal at the lower right. Float mounted against a neutral textile ground and professionally framed under glazing in a slim black frame.
An especially appealing piece for coastal, traditional, collected, library, study or contemporary interiors. The large format makes it an excellent statement piece above a console, credenza or sofa.
