The historic image documents a marine specimen caught off the coast of Brittany near Pornic in July 1765. Multiple anatomical views of the turtle are shown, including dorsal, ventral and profile studies, accompanied by French labels, measurements and period manuscript annotations.

Especially interesting is the original source correction visible across the upper inscription: the printed wording referring to a “monstre marin” has been struck through and replaced with a handwritten identification describing the specimen as a species of turtle, “Testudo coriacea,” the historical scientific name for the leatherback sea turtle.

Presented in warm parchment, charcoal and black tones, the work has the character of an antique scientific archive plate. The deckle-edged sheet is float mounted against a neutral textile ground and bears the embossed Natural Curiosities seal at the lower right.

Professionally framed under glazing in a substantial black shadow-box style frame.
