Original Japanese abstract ink work attributed to Taiyu Moritoki (守時大融, 1920–2017), a Japanese modern calligrapher associated with bokushō, a postwar avant-garde approach to calligraphy emphasizing abstract expression through ink and gesture.
Executed in black and gray ink on textured paper with a red artist’s seal. The artwork is mounted on a paper-backed wood panel in its period presentation. The reverse retains an aged identification label reading “Taiyu Moritoki” along with the artist’s Japanese name, 守時大融.
Moritoki was an established figure in postwar Japanese calligraphy. His work was exhibited in Japan, and a 1973 ink-on-paper composition is held in the collection of the Saku Municipal Museum of Modern Art. A limited-edition volume dedicated to his work was published by Asuka Gallery in 1977.
