The composition centers on … Read more A striking vintage framed decorative work by Lawrence Unlimited, titled “Titus II,” Item No. TRD 494. The composition centers on a classically inspired male warrior and female figure, surrounded by elaborate Greco-Roman-style decorative borders incorporating scrolling foliage, grapevine motifs, animals, florals, and grotesque-style ornament.

The imagery is presented against a dramatic black ground with warm gold, muted blue, burgundy and ivory accents. An exceptionally elaborate matting treatment surrounds the central image, finished in a substantial antiqued gilt frame with molded ornamental detailing.

The original Lawrence Unlimited identification label remains affixed to the reverse, identifying the piece as Titus II. Lawrence Unlimited was an established California wall-decor manufacturer active for approximately four decades and known for decorative framed prints and dimensional wall pieces.

A wonderfully theatrical decorative piece with strong Neoclassical, Grand Tour and Hollywood Regency appeal. Its nearly square format and substantial gilt frame make it particularly effective over a console, chest, bar cabinet or as part of a traditional gallery wall. See less
