Large-scale framed botanical artwork by Natural Curiosities, adapted from the celebrated 17th-century botanical publication Hortus Malabaricus by Hendrik van Rheede.
The composition reproduces Pars V, Tabula 2, “Katoi-Mail-Elori,” featuring a dramatic flowering botanical specimen rendered in finely detailed sepia-toned linework. The historical multilingual nomenclature appears at upper left, preserving one of the most distinctive visual characteristics of Hortus Malabaricus, whose original volumes documented the plants of India’s Malabar Coast using multiple regional languages and scripts. The fifth volume dates to 1685.
Printed on richly textured, deckle-edged paper and float mounted against an ivory textile ground. The lower corner bears the embossed Natural Curiosities maker’s seal. Presented under glass in a handsome dark striped wood frame.
The oversized leaves, flowering clusters, warm neutral palette, and historic typography give the piece substantial decorative presence and make it well suited to traditional, organic-modern, transitional, library, study, or collected interiors.
