Decorative ornithological print by Natural Curiosities, depicting the Sheregrig, after the natural-history illustrations associated with Scottish explorer James Bruce’s celebrated Travels to Discover the Source of the Nile.
The composition features an elegant long-tailed bird perched atop a leafy tree, rendered in muted blue-gray, black, olive and earthy tones. Beneath the image are the period-style inscriptions “Sheregrig” and “Bruce’s Travels.” Bruce devoted a section of his 1790 natural-history volume to the Sheregrig, describing it as a bird known in Syria, Arabia and Abyssinia.
The sheet bears the Natural Curiosities embossed studio mark at lower right and retains the Natural Curiosities label on the reverse. Presented under glass with a wide neutral linen-textured surround and dark faux-bamboo frame.
Overall framed dimensions: 25.5" W × 33.5" H.
