Countertop apothecary cabinet constructed in stained wood with ten graduated drawers retaining period glass drawer pulls and labeled contents windows. The drawers are identified for pharmaceutical ingredients including Sacch. Alb. (sugar), Cera Flav. (yellow beeswax), Cera Alb. (white beeswax), R. Zingib. (ginger root), Caryoph. (cloves), F. Hamamel. (witch hazel), Ac. Boric. (boric acid), and other medicinal compounds. Such cabinets were used by pharmacists to organize raw ingredients for compounding prescriptions before the widespread availability of pre-packaged medications. The surviving labeled drawers offer an excellent glimpse into the daily operation of an early druggist's shop.

All drawers slide smoothly and operate as intended. The wood exhibits light age-related wear including scattered scratches, minor finish wear, and expected handling marks. Labels display varying degrees of wear consistent with long-term use. Eight of the original ten label windows retain their protective glass covers. The remaining two labels have lost their glass covers and are heavily worn, with the printed labels nearly destroyed. Overall, the cabinet presents exceptionally well with strong color and an attractive antique patina. less
