This is a truly spectacular piece of vintage Chinese craftsmanship. This sculptural candle holder (candlestick) features the classic motif of a crane standing atop a mythical turtle (Bixi), surrounded by lotus leaves. In Chinese culture, this combination symbolizes longevity, endurance, and peace.
Exquisite Craftsmanship:
The piece is masterfully executed in a mix of pure bronze and Cloisonné (filigree enamel) techniques.
The Base: The turtle is beautifully detailed with vibrant, multi-colored cloisonné enamel patterns on its shell in geometric and floral designs. Its head is raised, and it features a stylized tail, all rendered in bronze with a warm patina.
The Crane: The crane stands tall on slender, ribbed legs. Its body, wings, and tail are also decorated with intricate cloisonné enamel, featuring yellow and green feather motifs.
The Top: The crane's beak holds a stem that branches out into several stylized bronze lotus leaves and pods. One of the central buds serves as the candle holder (spike).
