c. 1950s; Medley Distilling Company, Inc. - Owensboro, KY
Large-format, bottle-shaped advertising sign produced to promote Five Brothers Kentucky Straight Bourbon Whiskey. Executed in tin with a printed and painted surface, the sign is cut to the silhouette of a whiskey bottle and features bold, high-contrast graphics including the Five Brothers name, portraits of the five owners, and the tagline "Famous Kentucky Whiskey." The warm amber tones of the "liquid," heavy black typography, and bright yellow border were designed for maximum visibility in liquor stores, taverns, and distributors' showrooms. The reverse is finished in plain gray, consistent with wall-hung or floor-display point-of-sale signage.
Five Brothers was distilled and bottled by Medley Distilling Company in Owensboro, Kentucky, a major bourbon-producing center along the Ohio River. Medley operated throughout much of the 20th century and was known for aggressively branded labels and regional distribution, with Five Brothers positioned as a traditional, family-owned Kentucky bourbon during the postwar era.
