Charming vintage hand-painted folk art depicting a Black Swan Inn, inspired by the traditional painted signs of English country inns and taverns.
A striking black swan glides across blue water surrounded by tall green reeds and cattails, while a deep green panel below is boldly lettered “BLACK SWAN INN” in warm gold. The simplified forms, saturated colors and intentionally naïve execution give the piece wonderful folk-art character.
The painting is executed on a wood panel and presented in a simple molded wood frame with a warm ochre-brown painted finish. It is signed “Langlois” at the lower right; the artist has not been conclusively identified.
A particularly appealing decorative piece for an English country, traditional, cottage, farmhouse or collected interior. Its compact scale makes it ideal for a gallery wall, library, kitchen, home bar or layered among antique paintings and prints.
