The lightweight faux-stone top, the central carved floral cartouche, and the red chalk code 178004-249 underneath is a textbook example of a high-style 1880s American production parlor table.
The chalk code wasn't just matching the wooden legs; it was the tracking number that ensured the assembly team paired that specific walnut frame with the exact faux-stone top panel that matched the batch design. It's a wonderful piece of historical manufacturing ingenuity!
