Nine-drawer dresser by White Furniture Company of Mebane, North Carolina — the oldest furniture manufacturer in the state, founded 1881 and closed in 1993. Factory stamped on the back: model 2700-4, lot 875, butternut.
Butternut is uncommon. It’s in the walnut family but lighter and warmer, with a soft open grain, and almost nobody was building with it by the time this was made. The light natural color is original, not refinished.
Original brass hardware throughout, including the flat bail pulls and the center-drawer escutcheons. Turned and tapered legs. Solid wood case, dovetailed drawers, all nine run smoothly.
Works as a bedroom dresser, but at this width it’s just as good as a media console, a dining room buffet, or an entry piece.
