The tabletop is an uninterrupted plane of sapele mahogany, a wood so vibrant in color and grain that it can appear almost electrified. A beveled edge lightens the substantial top, which rests above an open welded-steel apron composed of repeating triangular forms. Slender legs continue the framework downward, ending in brass foot caps that provide a an effective to the blackened steel.

The combination of warm wood, dark metal, and brass recalls Paul McCobb’s Connoisseur Collection, while the geometric apron bears a resemblance to Maurizio Tempestini’s ironwork for Salterini.

The sapele top has been fully refinished, bringing out the wood’s pronounced ribbon grain and deep reddish-brown color. The original steel base and brass foot caps retain light, age-appropriate wear and patina.

The table is unmarked. We acquired it with a set of marked D.S. Vorster chairs. We spoke with the original owners of the set and confirmed it came from the same maker as the chairs. See less
