What makes this example especially versatile is its two-piece modular construction. The cabinet consists of two matching 30-drawer sections, each with two pull-out work surfaces. The sections can be stacked vertically for the dramatic old-library configuration shown, or placed side by side to create a long, low credenza-style statement cabinet.

The warm aged wood, rhythmic grid of drawers, original metal label-holder pulls, remnants of library classification labels, and interior card-file hardware give the piece wonderful authentic institutional character. It has been left in its original vintage finish, preserving the patina and evidence of its former library use.
