Van Hoot, (1900-1963). Rendered in the style of traditional Dutch Old Masters, this charming 19th century townscape focuses on an interaction between a horseman and pedestrian on a neighborhood path on the outskirts of town surrounded by village abodes and a more formal architectural structure in the distance, set beneath a glowing sky. The composition provides a dramatic perspective of historical realism and makes this small painting feel expansive. It is housed in a heavily carved, two-inch deep stacked frame which delivers a powerful presentation of this beautiful painting, even from a distance.

Although he lived during the first half of the 20th century, Mr. Van Hoot was particularly well known for his diminutive paintings of this historical genre depicting European daily life in the quaint towns of the Netherlands, Belgium and rural France. Artist signature in the lower right corner is fairly obscured by the frame.
