One angel plays a tambourine, the other a small portative organ, each rendered in the elegant style of the Italian quattrocento with flowing robes, gilded halos and finely detailed patterned wings.



Both are presented in their original narrow frames — black outer profile with a warm gilt inner edge — that suit the subject beautifully. The narrow vertical format makes them ideal as a pair flanking a doorway, mirror or bed, or as part of a gallery wall.

Each retains the original framer's stamp on the paper backing from Art Picture Frame Service, 519 Hayes Street, San Francisco — a shop long gone from Hayes Valley, which places the framing in the mid-twentieth century.
