This celebrated design perfectly embodies ingrand’s ability to transform glass and light into architecture. Each sconce is composed of a layered arrangement of thick, beautifully worked glass elements supported by an elegant brass structure. A softly frosted oval diffuser forms the luminous heart of each fixture. It is framed by two substantial clear-glass blades with rounded, deeply bevelled edges. Viewed from the front, the composition appears restrained and almost weightless; from the side, the overlapping glass layers reveal the remarkable depth and sculptural complexity of the design. The exceptional thickness of the glass produces fontana arte’s unmistakable nile-green coloration along the polished edges. This delicate green tone becomes increasingly intense where the material is thickest, creating a beautiful contrast with the translucent central diffuser and the warm surface of the brass. When illuminated, the frosted central panel softens the light while the bevelled outer blades capture, refract and extend it across the surrounding wall. The layered glass projects a striking sequence of overlapping elliptical halos and luminous crescents, giving the sconces an almost wing-like presence. The result is highly atmospheric: light appears to float around the fixtures while emphasizing the purity of their geometric construction. The glass elements are supported by architectural brass mounts comprising rectangular wall plates, curved tubular arms, cylindrical central housings and horizontal retaining rods finished with small brass terminals. The metal surfaces retain an extraordinary naturally developed patina, with warm golden-brown tones, oxidation and subtle tonal variations accumulated over more than sixty years. The patina has deliberately been left untouched, preserving the authenticity and distinctive character of the pair. While the model 2093 is more frequently encountered with nickel-plated brass fittings, these examples feature solid brass mounts. This unusual execution makes them particularly desirable and collectible examples of the model. The sconces are preserved in completely original condition. The glass panels, brass structures, mounting elements, screws, internal fittings, sockets and electrical wiring are all original to the period, with no replacements or alterations. The glass elements are in excellent vintage condition, with no chips, cracks or restorations observed. Minor surface marks and slight irregularities may be present and are consistent with their age and handcrafted production. The brass retains pronounced original patination and oxidation, both externally and within the fittings. The original period wiring remains in place and has been preserved as part of the sconces’ historical integrity. Because of its age, the electrical system should be professionally inspected and rewired according to the regulations of the country in which the fixtures will be installed. Sold as a pair.
