Vintage original oil painting on canvas depicting the USS Ozark (MCS-2), a U.S. Navy mine countermeasures support ship, shown in detailed profile with hull number 2, deck equipment, cranes, radar structures, American flag, and helicopter platform.
The original engraved plaque identifies the painting as presented to Capt. W.B. Hoofstetter, USN, Commanding Officer of USS Ozark, and records his command dates of August 24, 1967–June 20, 1969.
The painting retains a Blue Knight Gallery, Charleston, South Carolina label on the reverse—an especially fitting connection, as Charleston was USS Ozark’s homeport during Hoofstetter’s command. Presented in its silver-tone frame, the plaque and Charleston framing give the piece a strong and coherent period provenance.
Frame measurements approximately 21 x 25 inches.
A distinctive piece of U.S. Navy and American maritime history with direct association to the ship’s commanding officer.
