John Bell was hired in … Read more Vintage cast iron reproduction of a 19th century John Bell (English, 1811-1895) ram head sculpture. John Bell was hired in the 1850's to produce sculptures of various animal heads for the Metropolitan Cattle Market in London. These sculptures were used to mark the various aisels of livestock pens. After WWII these sculptures were lost but the original moulds were preserved by the Museum of London. Reproductions have been created from these moulds and displayed at the Islington Museum. 

Likely dates to the mid or late 20th century. A metallic gold finish was applied at some point, which has partially worn off. This can best be seen in photo 16. The sculpture is unsigned/unmarked and isn't currently set up for wall mounting.
