c. 1920s; Scroll Art Manufacturing Co. - Bridgeport, CT
Antique lighted tobacciana advertisement.
This piece advertises Dragon Smokers, a line of Chinese-inspired cast iron table and floor length ashtrays. The ashtrays took the form of a large vessel with stylized dragons adorning the sides. The sign features a depiction of two smokers indulging in their vice while making use of the eponymous ashtray. The sign is framed in a can that also holds the lighting element and it is filtered through the glass, drastically changing the colors and tones and revealing next text.
Light flashes on and off.
