The irregular contours of the oak create depth across the frame, while the pronounced curves give the sofa its distinctive profile. The seating has been reupholstered in hazelnut coloured mohair, contrasting with the natural character of the oak and bringing a considered material balance to the piece.The sofa belongs to the Belgian design landscape of the 1940s, a period in which traditional woodworking and solid timber construction remained important alongside the development of modernist furniture. Belgian furniture of the period often retained a strong connection to craftsmanship and material expression, while moving away from earlier decorative forms.
