Great MCM design that almost looks like it could be a … Read more Fantastic vintage custom, one-of-a-kind stereo/turntable cabinet from the 1980s. Great MCM design that almost looks like it could be a Jens Risom piece. It is made of walnut veneer ply with solid walnut trim, and has smoked plexiglass windows and lid. There is enough room inside the cabinet for at least two other stereo components, and the top level is big enough to house most turntables. There is a storage drawer that can hold 54 cassette tapes, and has another narrow storage slot on the right side where one could keep an LP brush, cables and other accessories. There is a short 2-prong extension cord built into the turntable compartment, as well as a box with two standard outlets inside the back of the cabinet with its own grounded plug, so that the stereo components inside can plug directly into that. The cabinet sits on a separate custom swivel pedestal, which has a nice pattern in the veneer. The cabinet overall is quite sturdy, and the swivel mechanism does not wobble and functions quietly and smoothly. It is in excellent overall condition, with only a couple of noticeable scratches, both of which are inside the turntable compartment. The veneer is chipped on the very lower corners in back, so will not be visible. The smoked plexiglass turntable cover has some very fine scratches that can only be seen when light is reflecting off the surface. There are also a couple spots on the interior shelf and on the base of the pedestal where the veneer has minor blistering. You will also notice a little black piece on the front near the lower right of the frame surrounding the front of the turntable compartment; this housed three tiny switches for a convoluted interior lighting system that didn’t work and has been removed, but could easily be replaceable with LED strip lights.
