An elegant portrait of a woman shown in profile, facing right, wearing a delicate white headscarf with red motifs. The sitter wears a dress in ochre and yellow tones, enhanced with small floral touches and a white bodice. The painter favors an intimate portrait here, with a neutral, dark background that highlights the complexion of the face, the delicacy of the modeling, and the luminosity of the dress. The technique, the treatment of the face, and the composition of the portrait are consistent with the work of Émile-Auguste Pinchart, a French painter trained in the circle of Jean-Léon Gérôme, known for his genre scenes, his female portraits, and, later, for his Orientalist subjects.
