A fascinating piece of furniture and applied art, dating back to the first half of the 1960s, consisting of a rectangular glazed ceramic tile mounted within a thick, contemporary wooden frame. The tile offers a refined and deliberate homage to the pictorial universe of Amedeo Modigliani, translating his distinctive stylistic features onto the ceramic support: the female figure is depicted with the characteristic elongated neck, the reclining oval face, the geometric nose, and the almond-shaped eyes painted in an ethereal powder blue. The technique is distinguished by excellent combined manual execution: the graphic outlines are outlined with a bold, thick black line that mimics charcoal drawing, while the colors are applied using virtuoso sponge dabbing of the glazes. This technique lends a grainy, vibrant texture to both the dress with its tartan motif in shades of wine red, the flesh tones, and the nuanced background. The work has no visible signatures on the front, and we cannot be certain whether the piece is signed, as the decorator's initials or the manufacturer's mark may be on the back of the tile, hidden by the closed wooden frame. This is undoubtedly a beautiful piece, an unsigned studio production of good artistic quality. See less
