The most striking feature of this secretary desk is its almost monolithic, architectural design: when closed, it presents itself as a clean, sculptural black body, which, thanks to its bevelled top and the warm, amber hue of the burl wood, becomes a real eye-catcher. The contrast between the black and the mirror-smooth, highly decorative wood grain lends the piece a distinctly exclusive, Italian luxury feel.

Behind the hinged upper front lies a practically organised interior with shelving compartments and two smaller drawers with burl wood fronts. The hinged panel can also be used as a generous work surface. The lower section of the piece consists of four wide drawers, the fronts of which are finished with a continuous, symmetrically arranged burl veneer featuring a particularly rich grain. The black interior, which is revealed when the drawers are pulled out, further emphasises this sophisticated contrast\.

This piece of furniture is not only decorative, but also bears markings that prove its origin: the word ‘Italy’ is inscribed on the back, and ‘Marbella S.p.A.’ is inscribed on the bottom edge of the drawers.

Voltan Industria Mobili, a leading manufacturer of handcrafted furniture in a modern style, was founded in 1969 by Luigi Voltan. The company is based in Legnaro, in the countryside around Padua, where tradition and innovation come together. Voltan is renowned for its high-quality woodworking, particularly in cherry, walnut and oak.
The range comprises a wide selection of furniture for living rooms and bedrooms, as well as home accessories. Among the top products are living room furniture, bookshelves and sideboards, as well as beds, wardrobes and bedroom accessories, all characterised by a modern and functional design. Each piece is crafted with care and combines aesthetics with functionality. Originally founded as a craft workshop, Voltan has developed into one of the leading furniture manufacturers in north-eastern Italy. In the 1970s, the production of furniture fittings was supplemented by a manufacturing facility for caravan and motorhome furniture. In the 1990s, Luigi Voltan’s sons took over the management and continue to run the company with innovative ideas, whilst remaining true to its traditional values. This piece has an attribution mark,
