This antique Chinese sideboard from the early 20th century balances a streamlined silhouette with textured, wabi-sabi materials. Crafted in the style of Mongolian storage trunks, the coffer was originally configured to open from the top and its paneled front has been modified into front-facing doors and four drawers.
The cabinet's exterior is brushed with glossy lacquer in rosy shades of pink, orange and pale yellow, applied atop the well-worn original finish for renewed vibrancy and a one-of-a-kind crackle. The flambé gradient of pink to yellow recalls the mottled coloring of 'peach bloom' ceramics, treasured for their soft hues and speckled imperfections.
